How to get ready for Spring in 2019?
The season is starting to change and the northern hemisphere will soon welcome spring! Not only does this mean more sunlight, elevated temperatures and beautiful blooms coming to life, but also a different change in wardrobe.
While spring is the most colourful season to dress for, it can also be tricky as some days it is sunny and warm and others can be rainy and cooler!
Below are the spring staples and must-have items in your wardrobe for 2019 to ensure you look good, but also feel amazing.
Spring is a symbol of birth and new life. Flowers, trees, leaves and animals all come to life again in spring. Unlike last year, this spring will see lots of dark colours like olive green and dark cobalt blue and light colours like sky blue and camel – according to Harpers Bazaar. Stock up on: buttermilk yellows, powder blues, sage greens, olive greens, auburn reds, chocolate browns and creamy oats.
Like each spring, the styles change ever so slightly. Floaty and floral is still a major spring theme, but for a little more sophistication, make sure you have a couple of outfits you can bring out that show your edge a little more.
As mentioned, oat is a very on-trend colour this spring, and so are head-to-toe neutral outfits. Think silk blazer, layered skirt, nude heels and a head accessory.
Believe it or not, fishnets are back this spring and we aren’t talking about tights. Fishnet dresses over neutral coloured slips are in and can be layered in an edgy way.
Bold print patterns on scarves are a must-have this spring. Think bright and loud with a twist of sophistication. Narosib Switzerland are currently having a spring sale on gorgeous silk scarves that are perfect for dressing up or layering a spring outfit. Their ‘Dhalia’ and ‘Pansy’ Rectangle Scarves are the perfect spring accessory. Speaking of accessories…
The belt bag is back in this spring, but this time, they are a whole lot more stylish. A lot of them are now made in leather and look like a cute little handbag attached to your waist! Some of them can even be carried.
This season is seeing the rise of the ‘sculpture heel’. From various shapes to hourglasses, the sculpture heel is the most fun shoe out there. You can find everything from artistic and creative to downright funny.
It’s cool to take care of your skin and with that returns a 90s-wardrobe staple – the bucket hat. Finding one in a classic print such as stripes and checks is the way to go this year and you can actually dress the hat up or down, depending on the rest of your outfit.
Rejoice and bring out your sets of pearls ladies because they are back in! Layer 2 or 3 sets together to make a bold statement or find large costume pearl earrings. A good thing to remember for this 2019 spring style is: the more natural the shape of a pearl is (i.e. not perfectly round like baroque pearls), the better!

Now that the last chapter of year 2020 is coming to an end as the tradition of every year I sit down and journal about what I want next year. I usually like to choose a mantra for the next year.
For 2021 my mantra is “Be yourself, be at service, create impact”. It sounds cheesy, I know but it will need me to come over a lot of my mental blocks and fears.
